Poles Aloud Show – 17th & 19th Jan 2016

Today we’re discussing how the same series known to us from childhood can turn out to be different depending on the country you’re from. We’ve discovered that the Moomins which the British audience has watched over the years are not the same as the ones Poles know from their TV experience. Well, they are quite similar, however there’s a twist – so do tune in to our show to find out more.

Poles Aloud Show – 18th & 20th October

As Poland celebrated Teachers’ Day on 14th October, we’re reviewing and comparing our own experiences of education and teaching styles both in Poland and England. In the second part of the show we’re looking at the ways of learning foreign languages that sound rather aspirational – e.g. reading original texts in the language you’re learning – and try to figure out if they work.3407

Poles Aloud Show – 20th & 22nd September

It’s a jam-packed show today. So many things to let you know about and share some great music, we hope that the one hour will be enough.

To start with, we’re going to captivate you with a song by an up and coming Polish band Notoryczni Debiutanci, their piece is called Szczęście (Luck) and is premiering on Poles Aloud this week.

Magda just came back from a conference in London organised by the Migrant Voice concentrating on the problems migrants face in the UK, issues of negative media rhetoric in regards to portraying migrant stories and refugees crisis. But there were plenty of positive things throughout the day where you could hear heart warming accounts of overcoming fears and trouble and making a good living here in the UK. We’re going to hear from the director of Migrant Voice, Nazek Ramadan, about the most significant messages coming from this year’s conference.

Also on the show, a Polish film night in Sherborne showcasing the Oscar winning Polish film “Ida” by Pawel Pawlikowski. All funds raised will go towards a student exchange between Sherborne and Chojna (Poland). We spoke to Jeremy Barker to find out more about this English-Polish co-operation and the Sherborne Douzelage.

And as usual; headlines from Poland, World Weird Web (bizarre, wonderful and strange news from around the world) and Polish for beginners (teaching you a word or two of Polish). Wow, that’s a lot! Told you it’s going to be jam-packed 😉

I want to live like common people” – one Polish MP decides to taste the life of an average immigrant in London. He’s going to stay there for a month, looking for a job with enough money to cover only a weekly stay. Getting in touch with voters or simply another pre-election twist?

Filipinki & Alibabki – paving the way for girls’ bands, those two unique at the time groups had emerged from high school choirs to take the Polish music scene by storm. Unlike the modern girls’ bands with each and every group member being different, Filipinki & Alibabki wore the same outfits, same hair cut and none of them followed a solo career, making the groups last for over decades.

We’re also looking at some interesting statistics when it comes to Poles getting engaged with charity, volunteering and in general, with the local community.
